FAQs

For domestic applications, see here. International applications need to follow the steps outlined here.

It will depend on the year level and entry year you are considering, and you should speak with our Registrar for specific details as this may vary year to year.

With Year 7 being a key entry point, we advise that families register their child early as the enrolment interviews can begin 15-24 months prior to entry.

Applications are processed in the order they are received. Therefore, as a general rule, the earlier an application is received, the better chance it has of being successful. The school will endeavour to give priority to siblings and children of Grammarians.

The majority of our students come to us at the following entry year levels:

  • ELC
  • Prep
  • Year 3
  • Year 5
  • Year 7
  • Year 10

Whilst these are our key intake years, we understand that individual circumstances vary. Where places are available, we may be able to accept enrolments at other year levels.

No, an application simply advises the School of your desire/interest in sending your child to Alphington Grammar School. An application places your child on our list for the appropriate entry year. We sometimes receive more applications at some year levels than we can accomodate, so to ensure your child’s application is fully considered, it is important we recieve it as early as possible.

Yes, each child enrolling at Alphington Grammar School needs to attend an enrolment interview with the Principal and relevant senior leader, accompanied by at least one parent/guardian or parent liaison.

There is no need to ‘prepare’ for your child’s interview. Interviews are very much a “getting to know you” session – both for us, and for you. We understand that selecting a school for your child is a big decision, and we want you to be fully comfortable with the decision you make.

At our end, the interview gives us the opportunity to meet with your family and learn more about your child’s interests and hobbies, and to get a better understanding of any needs that may be relevant to their education. For you, the interview is a great opportunity to ask us any questions you may have about Alphington Grammar School.

There are no entrance tests necessary for enrolment at Alphington Grammar School. However, we do have Scholarships (and relevant testing) for entry at particular Year levels if you feel your child is demonstrating a high level of mastery in the relevant categories. Please find out more about our Scholarships here.

Yes, we understand that family circumstances and individual circumstances may change, and we can bring forward or postpone your child’s intended start date. It is, however, necessary to notify us in writing.

On receipt of the application your child is entered into our database. You will receive a letter of acknowledgement to confirm this. Depending on the year level you have applied for, we will hopefully contact you to arrange an interview with your child.

If a place is available we will send you a Letter of Offer. The enrolment is not confirmed until we have received and acknowledged receipt of all relevant documentation and your signed Acceptance of the Offer, along with the confirmation fee.
