Scholarships 2021

Alphington Grammar School offers a generous Scholarship Program for current and prospective students. Scholarship applications for students entering years 5, 7 and 10 in 2021 are now open. Scholarship testing and interviews will take place in March 2020.

Scholarships are also offered in General Excellence, Music, Visual Arts and Greek Language for students entering into Years 7 – 10 in 2021 with specific criteria.

Academic Excellence Scholarship Information

All Academic Excellence Scholarships require students to register for a written examination at the School.

The exams are set and assessed by an external provider (ACER Scholarship Tests) and require online registration to be eligible for consideration of a Scholarship. The cost of application is currently $95.00.

Students entering Years 5, 7 and 10 in 2021, are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The Scholarships awarded range as a percentage of School tuition costs for varying periods of time commencing in the year of entry. The amount will be determined on a case by case basis for each individual applicant. Please note: All consumables are payable at the relevant cost.

All applicants must register for the ACER examination paper on line: please follow the link on the Alphington Grammar website no later than Wednesday 4 March, 2020 to be considered for the award.

The written exam will take place on Saturday 14 March 2020, commencing with Registration between 8.30am to 8.45am. The Exam will commence at 9.00am sharp. 

No correspondence pertaining to any individual’s application or the award will be entered into once the School has made its decision.

General Excellence Scholarship Information

Scholarships may be awarded to students who display exceptional talent in, and commitment to, a broad range of academic, music, sporting and art endeavours.

Students entering Year 7 to Year 10 Levels in 2021 are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

General Excellence scholarships awarded range as a percentage of School tuition costs for varying periods of time commencing in the year of entry. The amount will be determined on a case by case basis for each individual applicant. Please note: All consumables are payable at the relevant cost.

All applicants must submit a formal application to the Principal by the above date to be considered for the award. No correspondence pertaining to any individual’s application or the award will be entered into once the School has made its decision.

Scholarships may be awarded to students who display exceptional talent in, and commitment to, the Performing Arts (Music)

Students entering Year 7 to Year 10 Levels in 2021 are eligible to apply for this scholarship. It is an expectation that scholarship recipients will continue their studies in music to Year 12.

Scholarships awarded range as a percentage of School tuition costs for varying periods of time commencing in the year of entry. The amount will be determined on a case by case basis for each individual applicant. Please note: All consumables are payable at the relevant cost.

All applicants must submit a formal application to the Principal by the above date to be considered for the award. No correspondence pertaining to any individual’s application or the award will be entered into once the School has made its decision.

Music Requirements

Year Requirements
Year 5 Learning an instrument for at least 2 years
Year 7 Cello, piano, flute, clarinet, violin, saxophone – Grade 3 AMEB or equivalent.
All other instruments – Grade 2 AMEB or equivalent.
Year 10 Cello, piano, flute, clarinet, violin, saxophone – Grade 6 AMEB or equivalent.
All other instruments – Grade 4 AMEB or equivalent.

The Arts Scholarship Information

Scholarships may be awarded to students who display exceptional talent in, and commitment to, The Arts

Students entering Year 7 to Year 10 Levels in 2021 are eligible to apply for this scholarship. It is an expectation that scholarship recipients will continue their studies in Art in VCE.

Scholarships awarded range as a percentage of School tuition costs for varying periods of time commencing in the year of entry. The amount will be determined on a case by case basis for each individual applicant. Please note: All consumables are payable at the relevant cost.

All applicants must submit a formal application to the Principal by the above date to be considered for the award. No correspondence pertaining to any individual’s application or the award will be entered into once the School has made its decision.

Academic Excellence in Greek Scholarship Information

Scholarships may be awarded to students who display exceptional talent in, and commitment to, the Greek language based on a written application, a written and oral examination and, an interview. Oral presentation times will be scheduled after the examination date and will be communicated directly with all applicants.

Students entering Years 7 to Year 10 in 2021, are eligible to apply for this scholarship. It is an expectation that recipients of the Academic Excellence in Greek Scholarship will continue their Greek studies to VCE level.

The Scholarships awarded range as a percentage of School tuition costs for varying periods of time commencing in the year of entry. The amount will be determined on a case by case basis for each individual applicant. Please note: All consumables are payable at the relevant cost.

Scholarship Policy

Alphington Grammar School offers various types of scholarships:
  1. Scholarships for students who display Academic Excellence;
  2. Scholarships for students who display Excellence in the Greek Language;
  3. Scholarships for a student who displays exceptional achievement in the Arts, or Music;
  4. Scholarships for a student who displays exceptional achievement in General Excellence.
Scholarships are awarded to students based on two (2) or more of the following criteria:
  • The results of scholarship testing – written and/or practical examination
  • School reports, portfolio or recognised awards
  • An interview with the Principal and or a Selection Panel.
Application for a Scholarship:

Applicants are required to register online by visiting the Alphington Grammar School website: www.alphington.vic.edu.au and following the scholarship link.

There is a basic Registration Fee, which must be included with the application; this payment must be received to validate the application.

Value of Scholarship:

The value of each scholarship is at the discretion of the Principal. Each Scholarship will range from a minimum of 20% of the Alphington Grammar School tuition fees only. The scholarship value will range as a percentage of Alphington Grammar School tuition fees for a specified period as stipulated in the “Letter of Offer”.  Scholarships are not means tested.

Confirmation and Acceptance of Scholarship:

To confirm and accept a Scholarship offer, new families are required to pay $1250 non-refundable confirmation of acceptance fee within seven (7) days of the school official “Letter of Offer.” As a consequence of this payment an amount of $750 will be credited to the tuition fee invoice. The balance of $500 will be allocated to the Holding Fee Fund. The total amount of $1250 is non-refundable if cancellation of a Scholarship occurs. Existing families have already paid this fee at the time of enrolment.

  • The School offers all Scholarships to students on the condition that they complete their secondary education at Alphington Grammar School. If a student leaves the School prior to completing Year 12, his/her parents will be required to repay the value of the Scholarship expended, as recommended by the School. This condition will not apply in the case of the family having to relocate outside Melbourne or where the School agrees that special circumstances necessitate the cancellation of the student’s enrolment.

FAQ’s

Will students receive a copy of the results from ACER?

Students will be provided with their results by the end of Term 2, 2020.

When will students find out if they are successful for an interview/audition?

Short listed students will be asked to attend an interview in Term 2, 2020.

When will students find out if they have a scholarship, after the interview stage?

You will be advised within a week of interview.

How many scholarships are offered?

There is no set number of scholarships offered. Scholarships will be offered to high performing students. 

How much will the scholarships cover?

The Scholarships on offer cover a portion of Tuition Fees. The percentage varies per student.

What is the duration of the scholarship?

The period of time varies per student.

Does money have to be repaid to the School if a student on a scholarship leaves the school?

If students on scholarships leave prior to the completion of Year 12 or Alphington Grammar terminates the scholarship for a valid reason as stated in the Policy, families will be required to pay the amount of fee remission provided during the course of the scholarship.
