Prep to Year 6

At Alphington Grammar we believe that the Primary Years are critical for creating solid foundations of literacy and numeracy skills, as well as a sense of wonder about learning that can help our students develop as lifelong learners.

Like the rest of the school, our students within the Primary Years are encouraged to explore their talents and achieve to the best of their abilities. Our structured program has an emphasis on the all important literacy and numeracy skills, however we also provide a stimulating program across other subject areas. This ensures our students are provided with a strong and inspiring range of learning experiences.

With such a strong Hellenic background, AGS provides Greek as the second language for all Primary students. Language classes are streamed, to enable higher level Greek learning for those who have already have a level of proficiency. With many students not from a Hellenic background, it also provides the benefits of learning a second language to all our Primary students – without the expectation of prior knowledge.

Smaller than standard class sizes in our Primary Years provides enhanced teacher responsiveness to individual student needs, and helps to develop the strong community bond that is so integral to the fabric of Alphington Grammar School.
