Year 7 – 12 House Swimming Carnival

In Alpha News, News, Secondary School

Every year, the secondary school enjoys an all-day swimming carnival at the Boroondara Sports Complex. Tuesday the 17th marked this year’s inter-house competition, and the excitement began in the morning with an array of Year 12s in costumes; an annual tradition for each graduating year level to take on.

The day itself offered a chilly breeze, but this did not seem to deter anyone from competing to their full potential. Each individual student was keen to represent their house and collect points, while each house and future leader was focused on filling the events.

This year, a new swimming record was made. Byron’s Under 16 girl’s team of Kira McGilvray, Katherine Papoulis, Isabella Cincotta and Emma Dewit managed to crack the old record, achieving a time of 2.49.46 seconds – an outstanding achievement not just for Byron but for the entire senior school.

Congratulations also to all houses for their fantastic efforts. Byron finished on 530 points, Socrates on 532 and Aristotle on 602. For Pericles, the swim carnival was a success, as we won an unprecedented fourth consecutive title, which added to our rich history of swimming. We were clear winners finishing on 688 points and this was because of an excellent participation level in all age groups.

This spirit demonstrated how keen we are to excel in sports carnivals and showed how determined as a house we are. We hope to see this continue heading into athletics later this term, and cross-country later in the year.

Well done, everyone! – Pallavi Daniel and Nicholas Kierce
